22 years later, I still can't get over the creative and cultural impact of Hip Hop produced by artists introduced during the year of 1988. I know many other people can relate, to this day our minds and souls are attracted to Hip Hop that manages to carry the influence and traditions of The Golden Era by a newer generation of artists who are on a mission to create at least one timeless classic in their own right.
For the directions Hip Hop has taken in mass media over time, I think the late 80's struck the best balance I have seen yet between representing the best aspects of the culture in the face of an increase in commercial popularity. I like that fact that you could find a rebel force like Public Enemy or KRS played commercially next to people who were there to make you have fun like Rob Base or The Audio Two, all artists who didn't seem pre-manufactured as a gimmick but were making music from the heart.
Sit back and reminisce with this clip from Yo! MTV Raps which introduces the new breed of 1988.
