Collectors Item - Music, Art and Life: Blackstar
Da Beatminerz: "...Sumthin'" b/w "Another World" 7" feat. Tash, Rah Digga & Blackstar

Ill Adrenaline digs up a couple unreleased gems of the late 90's from the Dewgarde Crib of Hits. This 7" features Da Beatminerz signature boom-bap flavor which made them a go-to production unit for dusty Hip Hop straight from the basement. Tash and Rah Digga trading verses on "...Sumthin"" is a refreshing display of lyricism in 2012 pairing two talented MCs from opposite coasts over funky sounds by Evil Dee & Mr. Walt. The boom-bap continues on the flip-side with "Another World" remix as Da Beatminerz bring a jazzy knock to Blackstar's classic song.

Get a nice reminder of how New York gets your head-nodding like no other region with the sounds of this limited-edition vinyl pressing. Listen to both songs below at UGHH.com where the 7" is currently available.

Garrett Sayers Trio Play The Music Of J Dilla, Stereolab & Blackstar Live 12/14/11

The Garrett Sayers Trio bring some of the best live improvisational Jazz/Funk fusion you're likely to hear in the new millenium to Highland Tap & Burger, Denver CO. Their raw approach, talent and musical ability is a very authentic throwback to the sound of greats such as Herbie Hancock, Grant Green or Stark Reality. Garrett Sayers and his trio entertain with exciting solos, funky rhythms and the incorporation of contemporary musical influences through covers and original compositions.

As the student of jazz greats such as Cecil McBee, Bob Moses, and Danilo Perez, bassist Garrett Sayers performs with power, grace and a great sense of versatility by adapting to a variety of musical styles and rhythms. Since the Fall of 2007 Garrett has been touring the States, Europe and Japan with Koch recording artist Dwele. In this live gig, his touch on the bass serves as the backbone of what it a lively fusion of funky Jazz by a trio influenced by the sounds of Hip Hop and Rock.

You heard it on the Cobert Report show, now here is the official audio of "Fix Up", Talib Kweli and Mos Def's 2011 return as the duo Blackstar. They both kill it lyrically in a way which reminds me of the agressive, show-off style which a lot of MCs from the Rawkus era displayed. Audio courtesy of BamaLovesSoul.com.

Audio: RZA & Talib Kweli Interview Each Other On The World Famous Wake Up Show

Two great minds meet at The World Famous Wake Up Show to speak about music, consciousness, self-expression and Hip Hop in 2001 during a period where each were on the brink off dropping some serious heat for our eardrums. If you remember this period, it was just before Mos Def & Kweli were about to drop their debut album on Rawkus and RZA already had his 2nd solo LP out "Digital Bullet". Even for those of us who know the Blackstar and Bobby Digital albums from front to back, it is interesting to hear the two artists analyze and compliment each others direction of music making.

Part 2 of this episode features a freestyle session with RZA's groups The Black Knights, Northstar, and the West Coast's E-Rule.
