Preemo & Royce Da 5’9″ Visit The Forest on The Vlad Flueraru Remix of "Courtesy"

Witness Preemo & Royce Da 5’9″ go BOOM once again, but this time to the soulful and charming sound of The Imaginations. Vlad Flueraru makes it happen by flipping this outstanding arrangement of flute and horns on his remix of "Courtesy". This flip of the same sample previously used for Ghostface's "The Forest" bangs in it's own right. Royce Da 5’9″'s empowered persona and stylish flow is a great fit as he represents larger than life on the mic.

Kurious & Redman Get Funky On The Mic For '92, DJ Premier Spins On WBLS In '95

Just a couple random tape rips from my cassette collection back when I used to tape FM radio in the 90's. Kurious and Redman trade rhymes over one of the funkiest beats known to man on Stanford radio. This freestyle session is from back in '92, you can probably tell by the way Red sounds as compared to now. DJ Premier cuts up some Hip Hop classics on WBLS radio for '95, back when Smif 'N Wessun's debut album was on the verge of dropping. This may have been one of the first times I heard "Survival Of The Fittest" by Mobb Deep.

When I think back, I regret not taping Premo's short-lived show more often. Back then I was spoiled from having multiple classic Hip Hop radio shows airing all at the same time.

Stream The Instrumental Version of "Jewelz" by O.C.

O.C. keeps the generosity going over at his Bandcamp page with the release of a long-awaited gem. This is one of those albums that remind me of my best days of visiting Fat Beats record store in NYC. Also, the FM radio airwaves were on fire in the city with the Hip Hop of D.I.T.C and Premier in '97. The fine balance between aggressive and soulful sounds that O.C. demonstrates on "Jewelz" in a way reflects some of the Hip Hop music spectrum of this time. It was a time when even the roughest gun-packing rapper could feel free to make people feel good. Sit back and enjoy the head-nod of a well-rounded album that still shines like a precious gem.
