Video: Heavyweights Radio 4/18/13 ft. Boi 1da, Lord Finesse, Roc C, DJ P-Trix, DJ Rhettmatic

"We started the show off with 7x Grammy award winning producer and hit maker Boi 1da. Check the resume on this guy…MAJOR Hits!!! Definitely a cool dude too. Then…the Legendary “Funky Man” and D.I.T.C. member Lord Finesse stops by. Finesse was in town to DJ a couple spots around town and came thru for a exclusive appaerance. He hung out and talked about his career as a producer, working with legends like Big L Notorious B.I.G, etc. and blessed the show with a nice freestyle. He even took over the turntables from DJ Rhettmatic and cut up some breaks. The show wasn’t over yet….next was Roc C who ripped some sick versus after talking about has a new label and projects with Chali 2na, Oh-No, DJ P-Trix and others. P-Trix ended the night with an always dope DJ set. "

SlopFunkDust Presents: Beat Fanatic Vol. 1 - Smokers Choice

Beat Society alumni unite in a collaborative themed effort on production which is nothing less than head nodding. On the beats is SlopFunkDust, Khrysis, !llmind, Nicolay, J Bizness, Illastrate and DJ Rhettmatic for the instrumental series "Beat Fanatic Vol. 1 - Smokers Choice." The scope of this project revolves around the herbals of course, as each producers goes round for round on co-production with SlopFunk to bring bangers in between funny marijuana-themed skits.

From SlopFunkDust:
"Marijuana and hip-hop have been in cahoots since day one. For every Cypress Hill and Snoop Dogg, there are countless other music-making stoners promoting the ganja; they just happen to fly under the radar. A seriously funky and perpetually baked producer out of Florida, Slopfunkdust has been doing his thing for many years. Heavily involved with the Beat Fanatics and Beat Society, he's also concocted countless freaky instrumentals for a wide array of artists. On the aptly titled Smoker's Choice, he enlists the help of various talented co-producers, including KHRYSIS, Rhettmatic, Nicolay, and Illmind, to assist him with his bud-themed tracks. Every selection is titled after a designer strain of weed: "Sour Diesel," "AK-47," "Granddaddy Purp," etc., and they all live up to their names, with no shortage of tripped-out loops, mid-tempo drums, and bizarro samples. "Trainwreck" adds a head-nodding beat to the infamous 911 call from a Michigan cop who ate pot brownies and believed himself dead."

DJ Rhettmatic - Live At The Lab Mixshow (Interview & DJ Set)

It's always interesting to hear someone speak on Hip Hop who is from the era of watching Afrika Bambaataa and Malcom McLauren spin, and who practiced more than a few of Hip Hop's elements besides DJ'ing such as breaking and graf. DJ Rhettmatic of The World Famous Beat Junkies gets right down to explaining his place as a practitioner the core elements of Hip Hop based on applied knowledge of tradition to become one of the most renowned DJs/producers from L.A. California.

If you follow Rhettmatc as a producer he has his hands in a number of interesting new projects with artists like 14 KT, Buff 1, Ras Kass, Mayer Hawthorne and more, which he speaks on in this interview.
