Brandan E. aka DJ E-Feezy provides plenty of nostalgia with recordings of this great college underground Hip Hop radio show of the 90's. Catch Da King & I, Trends Of Culture, Artifacts, Down South, PHD (Hot Day & Blaq Poet), Gravediggaz, Mr. Voodoo during the release of their debuts as they interview and freestyle for Kevin Keith & The Dirty Dozen Show. 1993 Gavin Convention Hip-Hop Flashback: Interviews with Diamond D, Da King & I, The Pharcyde, Masta Ace & more

Billy Jam's Put The Needle On The Record show captures a moment of Hip Hop's Golden Era in radio interviews as groundbreaking artists united for an important industry function, The Gavin Convention. Enjoy interviews with Diamond D, The Pharcyde, Masta Ace & Lord Digga, Da King & I, Y'all So Stupid, Chrizma & Peanut Butter Wolf, with freestyles from some of the groups. ere is what Billy recalls of his memories as the radio host and Hip Hop fan:

"Today's "flashback" show features many other guests on that radio show from almost 20 years ago in February 1993 I did on KUSF during the (radio industry magazine) Gavin Convention - a time when record companies would bring artists to San Francisco to perform at showcases and do radio spots like this one. In addition to Charizma and PBW, for this one 3 hour KUSF show my guests included Masta Ace, Diamond D, The Pharcyde, Da King & I, Y'all So Stupid, Funkdoobiest, Nasty Nas, Freestyle Fellowship, and The Goats.

On this edited down WFMU flashback show I include interviews with all but the latter four acts (they were on tape one of the two 90 minute tapes of the show I recently uncovered. Note that the original tape with the Pharcyde cut off/cut short their interview - hence why it ends abruptly - sorry). In the house at the time as well as the guests were producer KC, photographer Timi D…, and friend of the show Big O from Master P's The Real Untouchables (aka TRU) outta Richmond."

Moving forward to 2014, Diamond D returns to bless the culture with his signature sound as he joins some of Hip Hop's strongest talents on "The Diam Piece". Enjoy the album stream courtesy of Empire Distribution.
