Collectors Item - Music, Art and Life: Drum Breaks
"The Library Archive, Vol. 4" by ATA Records Delivers Funk, Breaks, Drama & More

"An honest and forthright homage to the golden age of library recording, this new release is no exception – with nods to David Shire, Roger Webb, 60s/70s Hollywood, early anime and golden era video games.

Hammond & Farfisa organ, soul flute and vibraphone are joined by the Baldwin electric harpsichord, alto flute and trumpet, all colouring the usual high-end rhythm section of drums and bongos, electric bass, piano and guitars. Moods range from the dynamic The Galata Extraction to the whimsical Travers and the romantic Redford in Sheepskin, from the brooding Tatsuya, the Sword to the sensual Dunaway’s Eyes. Walter in Gabardine and Sutherland fly the ATA library flag of 70s-era NYC soundtracks – and both A Dilemma for Holbrook and Roundtree are drenched in soul flute so funky, it should be on the cheese counter.

Now four volumes (and a couple of singles) in, The Library Archive will eventually stand as a testament to the love the ATA producers and artists have for the original composers and performers of the great music libraries of the past." - ATA Records

Now available on vinyl, MP3 and CD here at Amazon.

Putting The Fear In Funk: The Horrifying Sounds of Calender & The Lafayette Afro Rock Band

Two bands show how the genre of Funk is so diverse and boundless, it can flip the concept of horror on it's head. Like Michael Jackson's "Thriller", this music is built to make you get down and be the cure for your rigor Motis. In '76, Calender & The Lafayette Afro Rock Band get groovy in the face of fear, turning legendary monsters into a funky get down.

Strut Records provides the Bandcamp reissue of "Disco Frankenstein" and Essential Media Group provides the digital Apple Music and CD remaster of "It's A Monster".

Look To The Cosmos With The Sounds of SAULT, Sven Wunder & Sean Wolcott

Like the beauty of nature, SAULT, Sven Wunder and Sean Wolcott offer wonderful possibilities to brighten your perception of life. For the listener who's looking for a tranquil mood, dramatic instrumental Library sound and outstanding vocals, this presentation is sure to please. Overall, the vibe is like floating on a cloud as each artist aims for the sky in an outstanding display of uplifting arrangements.

Funk Composer Henryk Debich Captures The Memory & Atmosphere of Poland

"From disco (la) partying to intriguing search for colours. A captivating photograph from the times when the Łódź orchestra under the baton of Henryk Debich walked in funky rhythms and carefully looked to the sides, looking for inspiration both in the avant-garde and in the hits of the time.

The recordings that fill "Memory" are a logical development of the ideas initiated on the cult longplay "String Beat". It can be heard that in 1976 the Polish Radio Orchestra in Łódź proved itself both in short, dance forms and in more experimental scores. That is why on "Memory" juicy, funky rhythms ("Puma", "Jump without a pole") are adjacent to impressionistic forms straight from the world of film music ("To the Goal"). There is also room for sonoristic madness and a subtle cover of Stevie Wonder.

The material comes from the original, archival tapes of the Orchestra from the archives of the Polish Radio Łódź. The whole thing has been remastered. The publication continues the series documenting the achievements of the PRiTV Orchestra in Łódź. To be continued soon!" - GAD Records

Futuropaco Brings The Drama In Psychedelic Library Fashion on "Fortezza di Vetro"

This one caught my ear for the dramatic sound in the vein of a band such as Calibro 35. Futuropaco blend the jarring elements of Rock and Funk to put you on edge like the feeling of watching a 70's thriller. Here's what El Parasio Records has to say:

"First new sounds from Futuropaco in five years. Futuropaco, a.k.a. Justin Pinkerton from Oakland, California creates colourful psychedelic music – a pan-cultural cratedigger’s delight that welcomes in a wide range of elements – from afro-beat and post rock to Italian library music and heavy psych."
