Black Moon & Smif 'N Wessun's Debut Album Instrumentals On iTunes & Spotify

The raw and gritty thump of Da Beatminerz remains timeless as an unmistakable approach to storytelling in Hip Hop through the art of breaks, filtering and chopping of rare grooves from the crates which forms a definitive musical portrait of New York City's ghetto environment.

Relive the classic material of Black Moon & Smif'N Wessun's debut albums in instrumental form as "Enta Da Stage" and "Dah Shinn'" get reissued digitally to iTunes and Spotify. Hopefully Duck Down continues to honor their label's legacy and put out an instrumental version of Heltah Skeltah's debut in the future!

Enjoy the album streams plus a funny interview with Da Beatminerz from 2003 on WBAI FM New York during the release of Black Moon's 3rd LP.

The Fab 5 & Evil Dee Interview & Introduce "Lefleur Leflah Eshkoshka" in '96

You had to be there to witness the rawness of how this supergroup bursted onto the scene with their singles "Blah" and the party anthem "Lefleur Leflah Eshkoshka". In this 1996 interview clip from Evil Dee's Monday Night Flavor mix radio show on Hot 97 FM New York, Ruck, Rock, Starang, Louisville and Top Dog introduce themselves as a group and the rare remix version of "Lefleur". Both the remix and original showcase The Fab 5's witty and unique personas, plus rhymes that were ahead of the time. "Lefleur" delivers unforgettable lyrics and stands as one of the best posse cuts of the 1990's.

Audio: Buckshot & Kurrup Money On Future Flavaz Radio (1998)

Pete Rock & Marley Marl invite two acts of the underground to join their crusade of breaking the raw sound of Hip Hop on commercial airwaves. Buckshot of Black Moon/Duck Down Records and Buckwild's (of D.I.T.C.) group Kurrup Money stop by Future Flavaz in 1998 for an interview and freestyle in between the mix of Pete Rock.

These tapes are always a nice flashback to a great time for independent Hip Hop and a massive selection of vinyl releases which were being distributed, due to the gems which Pete spins which are still memorable years later. Enjoy a moment of rawness which these brothers bring during the midst of a period where a side of Hip Hop was becoming more clean-cut and commercial oriented.

Celebrate Dah Shinin' With A 1994 Freestyle by Smif 'N Wessun (Video)

Since their standout performance on Black Moon's 1992 classic Enta Da Stage, Tek & Steele seemed to be destined to change the way we view the streets from their vivid depictions of ghetto life through music. "Dah Shinin'" projects the harsh reality of New York City like no other album as Smif 'N Wessun bring you into their world of street life where robbery, homicide, police corruption, weed, liquor and Hip Hop reign supreme. The date of this post marks the 17th anniversary of "Dah Shinin'" released on Duck Down music.

Tek & Steele stop by Big Max New Jacks Of Rap TV during the release of their debut single "Bucktown"/"Let's Get It On" for some freestyle entertainment. The third dude there with them of course is Top Dog of O.G.C. during a time before anyone knew or heard of his group. Above all I'm sure you'll get a kick out of hearing the host in the background kicking a beatbox routine from Black Sheep's debut album which adds onto the fun vibe of this freestyle.

Enjoy this video and grab you're copy of "Dah Shinin'" to vibe out with the classic sounds of Duck Down. Feel free to click on the tag Smf N Wessun to find more of their early video interviews here at cratesofjr.

Video: The Duck Down VS Blacksmith 2011 CMJ Showcase Recap

These artists are holding down the city of New York in my opinion. Watch the recap which features performance footage and interviews from Jean Grae, Pharaohe, Kweli, Buckshot, Tek, Steele, and Naledge.
