In '92, Lord Finesse Interviews Fresh Off The Release of "Return Of The Funky Man"

Veteran radio host Billy Jam is always a source of classic Hip Hop interviews, and this meeting with The Funkyman is no exception. Revisit the year of '92 in this talk with Lord Finesse who's fresh off the release of his sophomore album "Return Of The Funky Man". Finesse shows he has a lot on his mind regarding present and future goals, showing the calculated approach of an Underboss at a young age. Add this one to your enjoyment of this album, one of which is the most explicit and punchline-packed ever.

Above, enjoy "The Remixes - A Midas Era Retrospective" which features some remixes of songs from "Return Of The Funky Man" plus the instrumentals.

Del & B-Real of Cypress Hill Visit The 1993 KUSF Blunted Hip Hop Special

The year is 1993: Clinton had just taken office, Dr Dre's G Thang single was brand new, The Hiero crew was on the come-up and weed wasn't as near legal or acceptable in Hip Hop media as it is now. Del The Funky Homosapien, B-Real, C-Funk, Mozilla and Funkyman light up Billy Jam's KUSF radio with marijuana-based raps and share their opinion about how the culture of this drug is beginning to become more mainstream.

The bulk of the interview segment centers around B-Real, one of the leaders of the 1993 weed renaissance in Hip Hop who shares an in-depth look into the culture he is helping to create with his group Cypress Hill. The interview begins around the 1:19:00 mark in the audio.

Wu-Tang Clan - "Ruckus In B-Minor" On Letterman + '93 RZA Interview In San Fran

20 years since their debut, The Wu still bring the ruckus to your airwaves as shown with the raw energy and distinctive posse cut style of "B-Minor". In 2014 the crew rock out on the David Letterman show to a live band re-recording of the song and in 1993 RZA leads an interview with Billy Jam on KUSF San Francisco.

As a lively group of new-comers uniquely talented and straight from the hood, this archived interview reveals a lot of the personality and termanology of The Wu as RZA delivers raw uncut opinion about the record industry and '93 Hip Hop while introducing the Staten Island crew to the West Coast. Interview begins at 2:17:29

1993 Gavin Convention Hip-Hop Flashback: Interviews with Diamond D, Da King & I, The Pharcyde, Masta Ace & more

Billy Jam's Put The Needle On The Record show captures a moment of Hip Hop's Golden Era in radio interviews as groundbreaking artists united for an important industry function, The Gavin Convention. Enjoy interviews with Diamond D, The Pharcyde, Masta Ace & Lord Digga, Da King & I, Y'all So Stupid, Chrizma & Peanut Butter Wolf, with freestyles from some of the groups. ere is what Billy recalls of his memories as the radio host and Hip Hop fan:

"Today's "flashback" show features many other guests on that radio show from almost 20 years ago in February 1993 I did on KUSF during the (radio industry magazine) Gavin Convention - a time when record companies would bring artists to San Francisco to perform at showcases and do radio spots like this one. In addition to Charizma and PBW, for this one 3 hour KUSF show my guests included Masta Ace, Diamond D, The Pharcyde, Da King & I, Y'all So Stupid, Funkdoobiest, Nasty Nas, Freestyle Fellowship, and The Goats.

On this edited down WFMU flashback show I include interviews with all but the latter four acts (they were on tape one of the two 90 minute tapes of the show I recently uncovered. Note that the original tape with the Pharcyde cut off/cut short their interview - hence why it ends abruptly - sorry). In the house at the time as well as the guests were producer KC, photographer Timi D…, and friend of the show Big O from Master P's The Real Untouchables (aka TRU) outta Richmond."

Moving forward to 2014, Diamond D returns to bless the culture with his signature sound as he joins some of Hip Hop's strongest talents on "The Diam Piece". Enjoy the album stream courtesy of Empire Distribution.
