"Shimmy Shimmy Ya" Gets Reissued To Blue Vinyl, Ol' Dirty Goes Buckwild on Radio in '95

Revisit one of the most buckwild debuts in music that shows how Hip Hop even in it's most outlandish form is capable of rocking the party. This 2025 Record Store Day reissue of Dirty's smash single features the Extended Version, Stripped Version, Instrumentals, Acapellas and the Lord Digga Remix. This one is out of stock in many online merchants but you can still get your copy here at eBay from a number of dealers.

Below is some certified on-air foolishness courtesy of Russell Jones aka Ol' Dirty Bastard. Enjoy a recording straight from my cassette deck as Dirt raises hell live on the Martin Moore and Mayhem Show. This maniacal episode took place during Dirt's promo run for his debut album "Return To The 36 Chambers".

Back in the late 90's, radio hosts Mayhem and Sunset give you a reminder of the brutal honesty associated with Hip Hop as they tickle your funny bone by playing the judge, comedian and critic to a host of wack MCs, live on NYU college radio.

When your done listening to the audio above, check out one of Martin Moore and Mayhems classic episodes from their mid to late 90's run of college radio featuring a guest breaks set spun by a lord Finesse and an interview with Onyx.

Download: Moments from The Roots' 1996 Performance at WNYU Radio

This performance of The Roots at NYU college back in 1996 before the release of Illadelph Halflife is a memorable one in the vein of live Hip Hop backed by a band. The entire thing was about an hour of live jamming on the New York airwaves, so look out for it if you can find a copy online. Here I have a few of my own cassette rips of selected parts of the performance as recorded the day the performance actually occurred, and audio from the official snippet tape of Illadelph Halflife. Enjoy the energetic live Hip Hop/Funk sound of The Roots, sounding like hungry and eager emerging artists just having fun with music.

In '94, Method Man Freestyles Over Beats by Charlemagne of Natural Elements on NYU Radio

Just before the release of "Tical" and during the breakthrough of the group known as Natural Elements, Meth pays a visit to NYU college. This 1994 episode of the Martin Moore and Mayhem show features Meth on the mic showcasing a loose unorthodox flow. With beats by Charlemagne of N.E., you're in for an extreme head nod as Johnny Blaze lights up the mic. At this time of The Wu, we are used to seeing them in a serious and aggressive street mode. However, Meth lets loose in this freestyle moment as if he just took some shots of the liquor.

Fat Joe Visits WNYU Radio For "Jealous One's Envy", While "Success" Receives The Jazzy Flavor

It's just another ordinary day as Fat Joe pays a visit to underground Hip Hop radio in the '95. This chat with Martin Moore of WNYU radio shows Joe still on the come up and hungry to make his name known with dreams of success. During the release of his single "Success", Joe sounds more like a fan in this interview and speaks on Hip Hop from a different position than we hear him now. Joe's doesn't hold his tongue either in this interview, the fat gansgta takes shots at Wendy Williams and some people in the news who made false accusations against one of his crew.

Below, "Success" receives the fat jazzy flavor and as a result over-delivers a feel-good vibe to your speaker. The tone of this remix is like the feeling of your best day as Joe's ghetto fabolous rhymes meet a Hip Hop sound that's as inspiring as the sunshine.

InI & Pete Rock 1995 Freestyle On WNYU Radio During Fakin' Jax

1995 was a great time in New York underground college radio full of treats. Listen as iNi and Pete Rock visit WNYU radio for an interview and freestyle during the release of their debut single "Fakin' Jax". Like many other fans, I remember the wait to hear a full-length LP drop from these brothers after their debut single. I'm glad "Center Of Attention" finally saw the light of day on BBE Records.
