The virtuoso band known as BADBADNOTGOOD take their experimental approach to Hip Hop influenced Jazz further still on "Doom Medley", a free download which features their interpolations of MF DOOM's music. Fans of the metal-faced MC are in for an ear-opening experience as this band expands upon songs like “Supervillian Theme”, “Fazers”, “Vomitspit” and more with drum-heavy grooves and lots of improvisation.
Something about their name told me this Jazz quartet had something edgy and original to present in their music. BADBADNOTGOOD presents an EP which compiles their previously released songs and covers, available as a free download.
BADBADNOTGOOD cover interesting territory in their approach to music which is bound to be an enlightening experience for the traditional Jazz lover. "Untitled - Nightmare - Yonkers" flows with mysterious vibes to groovy Rhodes-laced jazz rhythms while their cover of "Electric Relaxation" mixes traditional Jazz with the funk drumming of Hip Hop as the band draws influences from both Tribe and Ronnie Foster.
Each song shows the forward-thinking yet traditional Jazz approach of BADBADNOTGOOD as they present a variety of experimental compositions, while playing with exciting new ideas of rhythm and incorporation of their own melodic influences in covering classic Hip Hop tunes.

Canadian musicians BADBADNOTGOOD put a unique twist on Dilla's classic on this 2011 cover of "Fall In Love". The imagination of this cover definitely separates it from a number of great Dilla/Jazz covers which already exist. Using the dreamy sounds of the Rhodes paired with a head-nodding drum rhythm and bass groove, Matt, Alex and Chester create a nice fusion of Hip Hop and Jazz, a sound which could only be possible through J-Dilla's vast musical influence.
