Uptown Records definitely have a string of memorable party jams to their name from the early 90's between the work of Father MC, Heavy D, Mary J Blige and others. Since the style of what is commonly known as a Hip Hop/R&B party record has since changed and evolved, it's easier to look back and appreciate their formula in presenting Father MC as an artist who walked a fine line between showing lyrical ability and creating radio-friendly records about relationships. Father's catalog departed from the hardcore scene of the early 90's and got the party started by incorporating influences of New Jack Swing and the sound of classic 80's R&B by artists such as Collage, Chic and Gwen McCrae.

This style of a party record presented by Uptown gave you songs to remember with classic dance grooves as the foundation, a crossover sound which some Hip Hop heads frowned upon back then but most likely can appreciate more now in the new millennia where appreciation for classic music and clever lyrical ability has been replaced or overlooked in some areas of the culture.
