In '92, Malcolm X's Daughter, Ice Cube, Grand Puba & Others Get Militant on "America's Living In A War Zone"

As someone who grew up within walking distance of where X was assassinated, I can feel this. Witness Amerikkka's nightmare in audio form as Hip Hop bombs on the government with militant beats and rhymes. "America's Living In A War Zone" is led by none other than Malcolm X's Daughter Gamillah Shabazz. This amped track demonstrates the social consciousness, determination and anger of Hip Hop artists in the early 90's.

Straight from the archives of the pioneering DJ known as Double KK is a megablast of live Hip Hop at it's finest. Masta Ace, Kid Jazz, Melle Mel, Ice Cube & Yo-Yo show the competitive nature of Hip Hop as they bust rhymes for the 1990 New Music Seminar. This clip makes me thankful live venues still exist to host Hip Hop competitions, such as battle rap and DMC battles.

Below is a full hour-and-a-half recording of the seminar from '88.

In '93, Ice Cube Remarks On The Past, Present & Future Of America During The L.A. Riots

The original 1991 poster for Ice Cube's Death Certificate, now available here on eBay

The Narrator R.B.X. Reflects On The Greatness Of Ice Cube's "Death Certificate"

The menacing voice you heard on Dr. Dre's classic LP "The Chronic" joins host Soren Baker of Unique Access for a special occassion. The two discuss one of the most cinematic accounts of social commentary in Hip Hop to date with a look back at Ice Cube's "Death Certificate". From the skits, rhymes, production and humor, Cube & Da Lench Mob proved music to be as dangerous and impactuful as a weapon by challenging both Amerikkka and his then-rivals N.W.A.

For an extremely visual and authentic depiction of the ghetto, it doesn't get much better than this. "Death Certificate" places you in the shoes of rebel to society as Ice Cube approaches the mic with a signature scowl, sharp tongue and remarkable storytelling ability.
