Kurious & Redman Get Funky On The Mic For '92, DJ Premier Spins On WBLS In '95

Just a couple random tape rips from my cassette collection back when I used to tape FM radio in the 90's. Kurious and Redman trade rhymes over one of the funkiest beats known to man on Stanford radio. This freestyle session is from back in '92, you can probably tell by the way Red sounds as compared to now. DJ Premier cuts up some Hip Hop classics on WBLS radio for '95, back when Smif 'N Wessun's debut album was on the verge of dropping. This may have been one of the first times I heard "Survival Of The Fittest" by Mobb Deep.

When I think back, I regret not taping Premo's short-lived show more often. Back then I was spoiled from having multiple classic Hip Hop radio shows airing all at the same time.

Audio: Kurious Jorge Guests on Forty Deuce Radio, 2014

On the February 12, 2014 edition of Forty Deuce, NYC hip-hop legend Kurious Jorge joined the crew live in the EVR studio.

Kurious Jorge (Jorge Alvarez) has been in the game since 1991. An emcee from upper Manhattan, 97th and Amsterdam, those who know, respect his flow and his street-conscious lyrics. His songs don’t stray far from what’s going on in the neighborhood and how that affects the community. If it’s a party anthem or an inquisition of the American dream, Kurious keeps it a hundred, true to his hip-hop, uptown, Cuban and Puerto Rican roots.

Kurious’ first album, Constipated Monkey, is considered a go-to record for students of the game. His work on Kurious II and in the Bamboo Brothers captured his love for and support of the independent scene. His many and ongoing collaborations with legendary artists like MF Doom, MF Grimm, MC Serch, Powerule, Pete Nice, 3rd Bass, Max B, Homeboy Sandman, Jungle Brothers, Jamalski, and Sadat X, along with the younger emcees coming up put Kurious right in the middle of independent hip/hop movement.

Back to the days of flippin' coins, Forty Deuce delivers Funk, Soul and Hip Hop classics diluted with rare gems. Old school's finest! Wednesdays 6 - 8 PM ET. Listen to more shows from Forty Deuce here.
