Enjoy as the Native Tongues Quartet inject energy, imagination and diversity into their performance as they expand upon Hip Hop, Rock and Jazz classics for 2 hours, live @ The Jazz Cellar. Inspired by the rhythm of Hip Hop as equally as the soulful swing of traditional Jazz, this emerging young band put it down in playing the music of J-Dilla, Watch The Throne, Radiohead and more influential modern artists.

Here is a live mix from an all Native Tongues Family party by DJ Shorkut of Just 2 Hype, Invisible Skratch Piklz, Beat Junkies and Triple Threat DJ’s. This isn't just any mix you'll find online, this mix is done by the hands of a DJ who comes from an award-winning collective of vinyl enthusiasts from the West Coast. Besides the skills shown on this mix, you really can't go wrong with a set of classic Native Tongues music. Enjoy the 30-minute mix from June 21st, 2011.
As a long-time fan of The Native Tongues, I highly recommend this retrospective of their 100 greatest songs by Jason Gloss and Thun of the T.R.O.Y. blog. Each part of this series includes cover art, audio and great descriptions about what makes each artist's song eccentric and memorable.
It's been over 20 years since the Native Tongues blessed Hip Hop with their first classic. After revisiting their total output I am glad to say each song remains as enjoyable as the day I first discovered it, thanks to the work of fans such as T.R.O.Y. who help bring the greatness of Hip Hop to light.
As a Black Sheep fan from day one, it's a great treat to finally hav access to many of the instrumental versions of songs from their albums "A Wolf In Sheep's Clothing" and "Non Fiction". The sonic creations of this North Carolina duo still stand as some of the most creative in the world of sample-based Hip Hop production, plus they had a real unique knack for comedy.
Silence Of The Lambs "The Instrumentals" Volume One marks the 20th anniversary of Dres and Mista Lawnge's 1991 classic "A Wolf In Sheep's Clothing". I still recall the day and place I bought this album, also the impact it left on my outlook of Hip Hop music from the inventive ideas and comedy. The instrumentals have been released in the same form you hear on the album, no bootleg loops.
This instrumental compilation is a definite collector's item, "A Wolf In Sheep's Clothing" it is a shining example of an era where production was at a creative peak of sampling, free of law restrictions. Take a listen for yourself to the treats Black Sheep has pulled from the vaults and reminisce on one of the early 90's greatest Hip Hop groups.

Nice new song from Dres, his second single off new EP, From The Black Pool of Genius: The Prelude. It's great to hear all the grown, inspirational content and life experiences he's giving back in his recent songs, as opposed the younger, cocky person you heard on 1991's A Wolf In Sheep's Clothing. To balance out the calm, thought provoking songs, I'm waiting to hear him come with another high energy cut in the traditional The Choice Is Yours, sorta like the feel of B-Boys Theme off 8WM Novakane. Enjoy this one:
