Above is a vintage 1970's heat transfer which portrays the late great Sly Stone. In the 1970s, heat transfers for clothing, particularly T-shirts. This application of fashion became incredibly popular due to advancements in plastisol ink technology and the rise of iron-on transfers. This allowed for easy application of colorful, detailed designs onto garments. Back then, clothing designers went from transforming T-shirts from simple undergarments into a major fashion statement and a form of self-expression with cool heat transfers like this.
This tune by Steve Parks remains one of the smoothest I've ever discovered while digging in the crates. Underground Hip Hop listeners might recognize the opening guitar riff on the original version of "Movin' In The Right Direction". It was transformed into a certified head-nod classic by Black Attack of Missin' Linx on "Holdin' It Down". That's actually the first time I ever heard Steve's music.
On "The Golden Key Sessions", we receive a demo version of the song without the sampled opening guitar riff and hopefully an album of more previously unreleased material.
More about this album: Steve Parks' "Movin' In The Right Direction" is a revered soul-jazz album, originally released in 1981 on Solid Smoke Records. Over the years, it became a rare groove classic, sought-after by crate diggers for its smooth vocals, rich instrumentation, and uplifting themes.
In 2019, the album received its first official reissue through Luv N' Haight Records. This reissue features a 180-gram vinyl pressing, housed in a heavyweight tip-on jacket, maintaining the quality and aesthetic of the original release.

"Curtis Mayfield was one of the seminal vocalists and most talented guitarists of his era. But perhaps more important is his role as a social critic, and the vital influence his music had on the civil rights movement. "People Get Ready" is the black anthem of the 1960s, and on his soundtrack to the 1972 movie Super Fly, rather than glorifying the blaxploitation imagery of the film, Mayfield wrote and sang one of the most incisive audio portraits of black America on record.
In Traveling Soul, Todd Mayfield tells his famously private father’s story in riveting detail. Born into dire poverty, raised in the slums of Chicago, Curtis became a musical prodigy, not only singing like a dream but also growing into a brilliant songwriter. In the 1960s he became a pioneer, opening his own label and production company and working with many other top artists, including the Staple Singers. Curtis’s life was famously cut short by an accident that left him paralyzed, but in his declining health he received the long-awaited recognition of the music industry.
Passionate, illuminating, vivid, and absorbing, Traveling Soul will doubtlessly take its place among the classics of music biography.
Todd Mayfield is Curtis Mayfield’s second-oldest son. He is an entrepreneur and former financial services executive in Chicago, and promotes his father’s music and legacy."
With an energetic hip-shaking groove, lyrics that beckon for the company of a female and some of the most outlandish screams your likely to hear in a Soul tune, Rusty & The Upsetters get superbad with a track that's sure to turn up the dancefloor.
