Revisit a time when a rapper wasn't ashamed to hit the floor with a funky dance move and show he or she had attitude. This commercially released compilation of music videos and interviews is courtesy of the Jive/Zomba and Atlantic rap roster.  In between videos of Hip Hop classic singles are interviews with Kool Moe Dee, A Tribe Called Quest, DJ Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince, Mr. Lee, Boogie Down Productions, D-Nice, Doctor Ice and more.

In '94, MC Brains Feels The Vibe With Lord Finesse & Buckwild on Production

I was surprised to see this one come across my YouTube recommendations, then bear witness to the funky sound. Until now, my only memory of MC Brains was his debut single "Oochie Coochie" which is quite different than these tracks. In the midst of numerous Hip Hop classics that were ruff rugged and raw, to me "Oochie Coochie" stood out like a sour thumb back in '92. More power to any artists who went that route and did what they had to do for the radio, but that sound wasn't for me.


In a surprise transition from New Jack Swing party jams to underground Hip Hop, MC Brains demonstrates his skills in '94 as he teams with Lord Finesse and Buckwild. Thanks to BeatJunkie82 a/k/a JunkiesVirtualCrates for providing audio of this shelved sophomore project.

Step into the wild world of a Madd Lad as Kwest digs in the archives as one of the funniest MCs to bless a mic. I always believed this guy would fit right in as a member of The Pharcyde for how unapologetically raw he was on this debut. From the skits and storytelling to his knack for dropping humorous punchlines, Kwest personifies the hood comedian. 

Enjoy a set of Kwest's unreleased recordings and the deluxe edition of his 90's debut. This potent dose of Hip Hop is like a combination of Bill Bellamy's How To Be A Player and Eddie Murphy's RAW.
