Enjoy this contemporary jazz cover of Ronnie Foster's "Mystic Brew" by the Vijay Iyer Trio. I am one listener of music who appreciates both songs equally, the cover by Vijay Iyer brings back appreciation and memories ofthe first time I discovered these great songs.

The original version of "Mystic Brew" is written from the perspective of 70's jazz fusion, a song which is filled with a warm combination of vibes, funk drumming and sharp organ sounds which come to the forefront of the composition, highlighting Ronnie Foster as an organist. Iyer's crafts a 2009 towards traditional Jazz sound, his work as pianist, composer and bandleader are backed by the upright bass of Memphis-bred bassist/composer Stephan Cump and drumming of Marcus Gilmore. In this cover, Vijay ensures a similar exciting rise in the instrumentation throughout, one of the great defining writing elements of the original 1972 "Mystic Brew".
