Most of us are familiar with the soulful, jazz influenced sound of Jay Dee when remembering the bulk of his work as a producer, but the dark side which took from obscure Rock and Psych records is a very interesting part of his artistic expression to look at as well. Listen a mix of songs mined by the one and only Jay Dee, a collection of deep grooves, weird synths, heavy baselines and breaks spanning the genre of 60-70's Rock music. Thanks to Bowls of Music City Living for his work in creating the mixes.
See how many samples you can spot throughout these mixes, it's a good test to see how familiar you may be with J's total catalog, plus a lesson into his beat-making technique and some areas of obscure Rock music! One of my favorite parts is hearing the drum break he used for Slum Village's "Fall In Love" and the ill guitar break he used for "Substitute" from his instrumental series.
