Direct from the vaults of James Brown's band is a fine selection of Soul and Big-Band Jazz tunes previously unreleased by The JB's and Fred Wesley entitled "The Lost Album". This 2011 project on Verve Music Group compiles JB's studio sessions from the 70's played by the cream of New York studio musicians such as Randy and Michael Brecker, Joe Farrell, Eddie Daniels, Steve Gadd, Ron Carter and many others. "The Lost Album" is packed with famous tunes from this era such as James Brown's "Get On The Good Foot" to Bill Withers' "Use Me,""Secret Love", a funky cover of "Watermelon Man" and original songs by Fred and his arranger Dave Matthews, all in a tightly arranged jazz-funk setting.

I knew D 'Angelo admired the JB's sound ever since hearing him cover "Funky Drummer" with ?uestlove of The Roots. Here is a pic of the two legendary musicians from a November 2011 studio session for D's upcoming album.
