Having begun her musical journey at age four as a classical flutist, Althea Rene draws musical inspiration from greats such as Yusef Lateef, Ian Anderson, and her father, one of Motown's original Funk Brothers Dezie McCullers for her outstanding sound. On her cover of the Deniece Williams classic "Free", Althea shines musically as she adds her entertaining presence on flute to give a new level of joy to a very inspiring song.


With a new vision of modern Jazz production, this version of "Free" thumps with exciting energy which speaks freedom in the form of music for a new millenium.


In 2014, Deniece Williams interviews with Black Hollywood Live's Phenomenal Women and speaks on her remarkable journey in music. From writing her first classic in the presence of her legendary musical inspirations Stevie Wonder, Thom Bell and David Foster to reflecting on key moments within musical eras which she contributed a number of classic songs, this interview profiles the work of a legendary hitmaker.
