"SWEET AS HONEY DEW. The enigmatic music lovers at Ximeno have blessed us with a repress of this excellent slice of disco reggae heat. Derrick Harriott’s sweet sweet lovers’ rendition of The Dazz Band’s “Let It Whip” is slowed down to a rocksteady groove but retains the original’s funky analog synth bassline and crunchy electronic snare fills.
The flip, though, is where it gets hot: Christine Lewin’s cover of Mtume’s “Juicy Fruit” (erroneously credited to Susan Cadogan on the center label) is arranged so perfectly, it’s hard to believe this wasn’t a reggae tune to begin with: deep deep bass licks and seriously funky synth stabs punching through Lewin’s angelic voice.
