Eric Krasno, Joe Russo & MonoNeon Get Funky at Brooklyn Bowl, 2018

"NYC’s Brooklyn Bowl celebrated their 9th anniversary with the debut of a new project (nO*sO*nO*) on Saturday, July 7th. Spearheaded by guitarist Eric Krasno (Soulive/Lettuce) specifically for the occasion, the trio included drummer Joe Russo (Joe Russo’s Almost Dead) and bassist MonoNeon (Prince). While the three musicians have played together on many occasions in various other supergroup formations, Saturday night marked the first performance as a dedicated trio under this moniker. For most of the two-set performance, surprise guest keyboardist Peter Levin (Gregg Allman Band) added his own ivory flavors to the mix.

Relying heavily on improvisation, (nO*sO*nO*) dug deep into the funk, jazz, and psychedelic rock catalogs. Covers of Jimi Hendrix‘s “Manic Depression”, The Beatles‘ “Get Back”, Billy Cobham‘s “Stratus”, John Scofield‘s “Hottentot”, appeared throughout the free-flowing jams and captivated the audience with their supersonic chemistry.

As of now, Saturday night was the only scheduled performance for (nO*sO*nO*). However, the excitement from both the band members and the crowd was high enough that we can keep our fingers crossed for at least a round two.

Thanks to taper McRoberts, you can listen to the full show below:" - Live For Live Music
