John Robinson and Kyo Itachi keep it classic like Manga in the form of Hip Hop that bangs with theatrical visuals and poetic wordplay which is influenced by Japanese comics. This tune from the duo's 2013 LP "Path Of Mastery" gets the Astronote treatment with a thumping spaced-out sound of a beat featuring heavy drums and sweeping synths.
Philadelphia's Aquil comes through with an ear-full in his deep and thoughtful approach as a lyricist on "Land Of Synth". With depth of content which balances showing off on the mic with good songwriting and meaningful messages, this is a listen which may remind you of what you've been missing from since the 90's. These two standout songs "Golden Ration" featuring Yahzilla Supa DJ produced by Astronote & "Image Creation" featuring Electric Lady produced by The Jazzment show Aquil's knack for combining thoughtful and skillful lyricism with the presence of female vocalists and soulful production.
Aquil shows individuality as an artist who has a determined message, carrying the torch for MCs of high intellectual standards. This project shows a strong dedication to the boom-bap with production from the likes of Astronote, TheEnginear, Trey Hemingway, Arcka and others. Stahhr evokes skill, intellect and admirable expression of real life through music on her new project Mother Nature with a Molotov: Molotov Season. She stands out from this balance of artistic elements as an MC who provides deep content, a competitive approach and entertainment song after song. With a variety of producers and guest MCs to compliment Stahhr's strong mic presence, "Molotov" is soulful and head-nodding Hip Hop music which varies in mood throughout.
"The project was birthed out of the dire need for humanity to catalyze transformation, rebirth and balance through the powerful vibration of music. Over 14 tracks, staHHr bobs and weaves expertly through a variety of production styles with clever word play, molotov mantras, natural law and metaphysics balanced with the essence of the golden era. Album features include hip hop legend Del, C-Rayz Walz, John Robinson, Eagle Nebula, Nomadic Poet, Boog Brown and Ekundayo. Stahhr also enlisted an array of producers for this venture, reaching from Georgia (Floyd tha Locsmif) the Bronx (Lex Boogie), Brooklyn (Sid V), France (Astronote) and Iceland (Fonetik Simbol). This album is the follow up to her 2008 release Almost Neva Was. The lead single off his album "Land Of Synth" features the socially conscious and determined approach of Aquil as he introduces himself and gives his view on the world around him. It seems he has a lot on his mind about life and manages to project many images within a short track time for a overall message and groove which is memorable. Astronote provides raw sounds on the board in his simple approach of using a dirty drum break, horns and some touches of synths to give the track a traditional Hip Hop feel. Be on the look out for more from this Philadelphia MC who has already worked with the likes of 9th Wonder and Kuddie Fresh.
Astronote returns with heat on the boards for "The Raw Tape". On this instrumental collection the sound does appear to be a bit more raw than his usual approach to production, "The Raw Tape" brings the boom-bap essence in displaying Astronote's futuristic sound using dirty drum sounds and samples composed with a level of character, simplicity and grit reminiscent of analog drum machine-style production.
Although his production tends to be elaborate, it's clear Astronote knows the value of drum breaks, evident samples and the essence of what provokes the head to nod. He gets down to the basics of Hip Hop sound on The Raw Tape" while showing the skills and new ideas he has up his sleeve.
"Weapon Of The Future" by Astronote should open your ears upon the first listen if you've been looking for a good balance between next-level production sound in the realm of traditional boom-bap paired with some of the finest emerging lyrical talent of underground Hip Hop. From "Weapon Of The Future SINGLES Pt.2" by Astronote, who shows his versatility of sound on this one. "We Don't Change" reminds me of a West Coast type of sound but still unique to Astronote's dark Jazz fusion style of production.
Enjoy these two new songs of Astronote's forthcoming LP, "Weapon Of The Future" he's definitely bringing some fresh, progressive ideas of sound in production while keeping the raw essence of Hip Hop around.
From this lineup of MCs I was expecting a menacing beat but was surprised to hear laid back sounds on "Watch Out", a posse cut which flows like water. You've got a nice balance of veteran and emerging talent here in a competitive display of skills in the future of underground lyricism. The combination of Astronote production and King Magnetic's rhyme ability continues to impress, look out for more work of this duo in the future.
