Enjoy the 2012 EP from UK producer Eric Lau, a Hip Hop presentation which includes a 15-TRACK deluxe edition vinyl, featuring contributions from Fatima, Olivier Daysoul, Chris "Daddy" Dave, Alex Bonfanti & Damu The Fudgemunk. I like to think of Eric's distinct production vibe as melodic, spaced-out Jazz fusion incorporated to the boom-bap, sample-based sound of Hip Hop. Listen for yourself and absorb the beats and rhymes of "The Mission EP".
"Yesterday" is featured on Eric Lau's "THe Mission EP" which you can pre-order here.
Music by Onra, Pac Div, Erykah Badu, Pharrell & Questlove, Georgia Anne Muldrow, Ishe, DJ Jazzy Jeff, Ayah, Geno, Amp Fiddler, Emmanuel, Mark De Clive Lowe, Amerie, Median, Nate Smith, Freddie Joachim, Oliver Daysoul, Slakah the Beatchild, Slum Village, Dwele, Musiq Soulchild, J Soul, Chris Daddy Dave, Gretchen Parlato, Sam Champ & D Angelo.
These are 2 seriously funky pieces of music. On "Persuasion" (Feat. Olivier Day Soul & Sean Price) German production duo JR&PH7 use their knack for soulful sample-based production to make a Hip Hop banger out of the rhythm section from Jazz organist Jimmy McGriff
's 1970 song "Bird Wave". The energy on both songs is great and as sample architects, JR&PH7 make you realize how well orchestrated the horn section of McGriff's "Bird Wave" is in creating a contemporary interpretation on the Jazz organists' classic.
I've enjoyed the soulful, inventive productions of Oddisee since around 2006 after discovering his diverse discography with a variety of breakthrough artists such as Little Brother and his group Diamond District. Oddisee is one producer who has made my search for music in the new digital age something to look forward to, by leaving his creative imprint of inventive sample-based production on different styles of Hip Hop, Soul and Instrumental music. This collection called "A Year In" showcases Oddisee's growth as a producer/MC who continues to collaborate with a range of up and coming talent, from traditional Hip Hop, Southern bounce or contemporary Soul.
Review from the LA Times Music Blog"
"Oddisee spent 2010 trying to live up to his name, collaborating with a range of characters, including Brighton, England's trip-hop soulstress Andreya Triana, jazzy New York favorite Homeboy Sandman and the top tier -- X.O., Kingpin Slim, yU -- of his Washington, D.C., hometown. His soulful wanderings lamped in Los Angleles long enough to produce ideal complements to the laid-back palm-tree flows of TiRon, Blu and Trek Life. Available for free at his Bandcamp site, the compilation traces the arc of one of the most gifted and unsung producers in rap."
