It's refreshing and amazing to hear the amount of influence Jay Dee's production exists in Bilal's catalog. I always believed his rhythm, signature drum sounds and use of vocalists played a good part in influencing the direction of Neo-Soul music around the turn of the century, artists like Bilal added a bit more Hip Hop grit to their production while keeping the traditional elements of Soul present.
