Blue Note Calls Vibraphonist Joel Ross The Most Thrilling For His Debut LP "KingMaker"
By JR on 10:15 PM
Filed Under: Blue Note Records , Jazz , Joel Ross vibraphonist , Vibraphonists
"“I never had a doubt that I was going to do music,” says Joel Ross, 23 years old and the most thrilling new vibraphonist in America. “My whole life it was just about finding a way to do it.” In the past few years, keeping up with all of those ways has, for aficionados, turned into a virtuosic practice unto itself. The Chicago-born, Brooklyn-based player and composer has a way of being everywhere interesting at once: from deeply innovative albums (Makaya McCraven’s Universal Beings, Walter Smith III & Matthew Stevens’ In Common) to reliably revolutionary combos (Marquis Hill’s Blacktet, Peter Evans’ Being & Becoming) to the buzzing debut of Blue Note’s 2018 breakout star James Francies (Flight).
Even with his own bands—which include quartets and a large ensemble dedicated to works of and in-the-style-of Ornette Coleman and the Keith Jarrett’s American Quartet—Ross is basically a living blur of mallets and talent and ideas." - Blue Note Records

"Ever since her critically acclaimed former band Purson played their final gig in late 2016, singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Rosalie Cunningham has been working on solo material for this, her debut album. Across eight genre-spanning tracks, fans will be able to hear the incredible progression in both style and substance. With psychedelic roots still firmly in place, her music is still chock full of the drama and performance that typified her previous work, alongside an evolution in her song writing craft; this album shows off the growth as a writer in the past two years." Libretto, Buscrates & Vursatyl Help You To Maintain Through "The Struggle"
By JR on 10:20 PM
Filed Under: BusCrates 16-Bit Ensemble , Hip Hop , Inspiration , Libretto , Vursatyl
"No pretense, just skills. The duo of Libretto & Buscrates represent a convergence of emcee and production mastery. They are students of Hip-Hop and are thoroughly committed to both its preservation and progression. Their new masterpiece, "Eternal Ridin'" fully and uncompromisingly represents Hip-Hop in its purest form, while updating the sound and pushing the culture forward.
Eternal Ridin' is a true LP. From "Sentences" with its vivid 1st hand description of life in federal prison, to "Stuck in Time" which details a love and connection to music, every song has its place, and every song tells its own story. Yet, there is an overarching theme, one of redemption and standing strong in the face the struggle. The struggle that is universally understood, and the unique struggle of what it means to be oppressed in America.
Libretto brings a veteran's presence to each song, approaching every track with a unique flow and cadence. Buscrates' production provides full sonic soundscapes flavored with virtuoso touches that only become apparent upon repeated listens. By pairing undeniably raw raps with refined song composition and production expertise, "Eternal Ridin'" provides one of the freshest examples of rap music's enduring power as an art form." - Liquid Beat Records
From the award-winning minds of Guy Thomas, Bill Meyers, Vinnie Colaiuta, and Neil Stubenhaus deliver a vibe of love and happiness you're sure to remember. With a blissful 80's Pop-Soul approach, 213 share a reflective expression of the heart that is compelling, uplifting and groovy.
Kinkajous' debut album 'Hidden Lines' is a compelling mix of tonalities and influences, drawn from their London home. The band has condensed their diverse experiences from across the artistic spectrum – orchestral to jazz, world and electronic – into a transcendental exploration of sound and time. "Loke" concludes the album on a marvelous note as Kinkajous allow you to drift away to the tune of a blissful electro-Jazz arrangement.
The 8-Bit Big Band" a 30-65 member Jazz/pops orchestra that formed to celebrate and realize some of the best themes from video game music from all consoles and eras arranged in a large ensemble Jazz/Orchestra/Pop/Rock setting! On this standout cut from their summer 2019 album, the group keep it swinging with an attractive dose of Jazz and Soul on their rearrangement of Sonic The Hedgehog's "Spring Yard Zone". Video game theme music as never been so attractive and soulful as 8-Bit Big Band's lively groove inspires you to get loose.
"Every time organ master and keyboard virtuoso Robert Walter reconvenes his 20th Congress, he delves deeper and deeper into the wellspring of his most formative influences: hip-shaking vintage soul, window-rattling ‘60s-‘70s funk, and the sounds of classic organ jazz. However, for his latest outing, ‘Spacesuit’, Walter switched his source of inspiration from digging through the crates to gazing speculatively skyward, imagining new worlds rather than emulating classic records. The results lose none of the explosive funk and soul grooves that Walter has become known for (whether leading his own bands, as a founding member of The Greyboy Allstars, or touring with Phish bassist Mike Gordon) and it takes those sounds into outer space, blending inspiration from science fiction movies, comic books and art with wide-ranging influences encompassing everything from Dub Reggae to Krautrock to early jazz-rock fusion." - Royal Potato Family Records
