Each track was presented under a pseudonym to give the impression of an album you would find whilst digging in a Caribbean record shop or American thrift store. The two German producers dig into their wide range of musical influences to present a 13 track collection of instrumentals which take influence and push the art of classic 90's jazzy, boom-bap sound founded by Pete Rock, Dilla, Spinna and others.
If you are familiar with Shuko and F's impressive production catalog, this is definitely a conscious step into presenting a specific sound that they love, each utilize a wide range of moods and styles in working with a variety of artists. These are 2 seriously funky pieces of music. On "Persuasion" (Feat. Olivier Day Soul & Sean Price) German production duo JR&PH7 use their knack for soulful sample-based production to make a Hip Hop banger out of the rhythm section from Jazz organist Jimmy McGriff
's 1970 song "Bird Wave". The energy on both songs is great and as sample architects, JR&PH7 make you realize how well orchestrated the horn section of McGriff's "Bird Wave" is in creating a contemporary interpretation on the Jazz organists' classic.
In this 1995 episode of Pirate Radio, K-Def is on the wheels cutting breaks and samples used in Hip Hop songs you are probably very familiar with spanning Jazz, Soul, Funk and Rock genres of the 70's. In a period where commercial radio stations threatened to remove authentic representation of Hip Hop like this off the air, K-Def, Marley Marl and Pete Rock stood their ground with quality Hip Hop representation on this show.
This mix provides a good look into the skills of a DJ on FM radio in the classic sense of Hip Hop. In this mix K-Def commands his collection of vinyl for your listening pleasure. Check for a surprise freestyle appearance by K's cousin during the end of the show.

This one caught me off guard with it's dark and threatening sound, I usually identify Detroit with soulful sounds but this is sorta scary in comparison. Nevertheless each MC rips it on "My Detroit", a heavy hard-hitting ode to The D led by Ketchphraze, one third of the acclaimed group Street Justice.

The scope of this project revolves around the herbals of course, as each producers goes round for round on co-production with SlopFunk to bring bangers in between funny marijuana-themed skits.

Witness the inspiration !llmind took from female soul musician Zulema and her 1975 cover of "I Wanna Be Where You Are" (originally written by Leon Ware) to produce the instrumental "Wannabee" using virtual instrument sounds composed from scratch. Pretty interesting isn't it? This is one instance of a Hip Hop producer digging for deeper influences in creating innovative music.

I think it's up to the older generation to catch wreck and hand down tradition according to the history of the culture, which Die-Rek ft. DJ Versatile do on this song. "Grown Man Biz" hits hard from the second it drops with a thumping drum break, leading you into a standout performance by Die-Rek on the mic and DJ Versatile on the wheels.
Philadelphia's own Kindred The Family Soul collaborate with Snoop Dogg to present a gem of contemporary Soul in "You Got Love", a song of appreciation for your significant other which undeniable feel-good vibes and heartwarming messages. This song really gets down to the heart of what the average person feels in life, which will probably make it a work of art to be remembered for years to come.

From this lineup of MCs I was expecting a menacing beat but was surprised to hear laid back sounds on "Watch Out", a posse cut which flows like water. You've got a nice balance of veteran and emerging talent here in a competitive display of skills in the future of underground lyricism. The combination of Astronote production and King Magnetic's rhyme ability continues to impress, look out for more work of this duo in the future.
