Izzy Ice & DJ Majesty take a stand to briefly speak about career-related issues during one of Hip Hop's phases of industrial revolution. As Hip Hop began to generate more revenue for corporations in the early 90's, the bootlegging situation also rose as another section of lower class society searched for a way to profit from the growing industry of music. These street dealers began to stir the emotions of many artists who began to voice their opinions on record. "Krak Da Weasel" is one song by Da King & I which spoke on outside forces who threatened to stagnate their musical output, but didn't directly speak against the epidemic of street corner cassette bootlegging as songs like "Straighten It Out" by Pete Rock &C.L. Smooth or "Bootlegga" by The Hoodratz.
Moving forward into 2011, the issue of bootlegging still remains but has evolved to the form of digital downloads. The words which these two artists speak about awareness of the changing world around them speaks volumes about the path which contemporary artists must follow in order to maintain a successful independent career.

Get into the Christmas spirit with the R&B/Hip Hop vibes of Black Milk & Melanie Rutherford on "Simply Having". This duo sounds like the next thing to look out for from the Detroit music scene as Melanie lends her vocals to cover "A Wonderful Christmas Time" by The Beatles.

In the year of '94, Jeru redefined the meaning of underground buzz with his debut single "Come Clean", a very dark song which circulated heavily to build momentum and introduce the world to his brutally honest approach towards attacking the fakes and frauds of Hip Hop culture. I like to think of this song as an example of how The Gangstarr Foundation seemed to have a knack for attracting people's attention based on providing the truth regardless of how dark and against the normal format of commercial music their songs might have been.
In this interview, Jeru explains the deeper meaning of "Come Clean" to Big Lez of Rap City on a sunny New York City day. Take a look back to the debut of an artist who brought his own view of knowledge, wisdom and understanding of the world around him into Hip Hop.
Enjoy this radio show and be sure to grab a copy of his 2011 mixtape "The Hat Trick" here.
The annual Hip Hop Takeover of WBAI FM radio New York always holds it down with good music, the insight of the culture's pioneers and taking action for a positive purpose. This segment of the Hip Hop Takeover focuses deeply on the health issues which effect Hip Hop, particularly the important topic of cancer and living the longest, healthiest life possible. You will hear the words from listeners and studio participation from artists such as Greg Nice, Kangol Kid from UTFO, Kool Kim, Nikki D, Crazy Legs, DJ Johnny Juice, and DJ Evil Dee. This is education, awareness and an appreciation of life through Hip Hop which is rarely heard of in mass media.

To commemorate the release of their 13th album, Undun, The Roots performed three sold out shows at Highline Ballroom in NYC. ItsAllTheWayLive.net was present to capture this November 2011 show and provide us with the soundboard audio recording. Bilal joins Black Thought and The Roots for an electrifying 15 minute performance of "The Otherside" Listen as the crows goes wild at the effort of this performance which features a combination of great vocal, drum and guitar solos towards at the end.
The performance gets even more emotional and inspirational with Dice Raw joining Thought for the life-driven messages of "Lighthouse". This is truly elevation of musical performance in Hip Hop as The Roots begin another great album with "undun", now available in stores.
Download: Kool G Rap & Akinyele on Future Flavaz (early 2000's)
By JR on 10:48 AM
Filed Under: Akinyele, Kool G Rap, Pete Rock and Marley Marl Future Flavaz
Listen to 2 separate episodes of Pete Rock & Marley Marl's Future Flavaz show from early 2000 which feature a couple of lyrical beasts from the borough of Queens, Kool G Rap and Akinyele.
The Kool G Rap episode was conducted just before the release of his Rawkus LP "The Giancana Story" and features an interview with Marley, in addition to an unreleased promo with Ma Barker and a killer freestyle. The episode is also an unfortunate one though, since it was also dedicated to the passing of Pete Rock's father.
The Akinyele episode is a funny and entertaining one during the release of his "Aktapuss" LP and the success of his single "Put It In your Mouth". Ak gets wild during the interview, sounding hella enthusiastic and overjoyed with life probably due to the amount of females he was dealing with from his new player image.
One of Japan's best DJs takes to the wheels of steel for about an hour of current Hip Hop, departing for his usual format of spinning the rarest of breaks. From the looks of the tracklist it's mostly a set based on the quality output of Stones Throw Records.
In addition to the mix, be sure to check out Muro's 2010 picture book "45 RPM Cover Museum". I think this is only available for ordering in one spot outside of Japan at a store called Dusty Groove. Here is their review of Muro's book by Dusty Groove:

Brooklyn based producer & pianist Jason "ClassicBeatz" Minnis blesses the keys for his 4 song classical piano EP "Romantic Reflections", which will be released (digital & physical CD's) in mid December. The first single "Rachmaninoff - Prelude in C sharp minor" is a dramatic composition which displays Jason's musical abilities and shows a sharp contrast of mood from his previous project "Ntale's Groove".
"Romantic Reflections" is even more interesting once you begin to learn more about Jason Minnis the artist. You can view videos, photos and additional content at ldbk.eu/romantic.
