J-Live f/ Boog Brown "The Way That I Rhyme" VIDEO from J-LIVE on Vimeo.

This song came out almost a year ago, yet it still stands as one of my favorite Hip Hop songs in awhile, the Rob Base "It Takes Two" sample on the chorus and creative writing of J-Live is great. Check it out and see for yourself if it's your first time hearing this gem.

Audio: Jake One Interview With Differently Still Guy Radio

Jake One, co-founder of Red Bull Beat Battles and producer of Brother Ali, G-Unit, De La Soul, M.O.P., Freeway, DOOM and others sits down for an uncut interview with Differently Still Guy Radio to reveal some behind the scenes events he has had in the industry. Jake shares memories of real-life meetings with respected veterans like Ghostface, DJ Premier, E-40 and Lord Finesse, plus gives his opinion on rules of digging and production in the digital age. The story he tells at at 15:14 of hanging out with Ghostface for a Red Bull studio session and going out for dinner afterwards is especially funny.

Most of us are familiar with the soulful, jazz influenced sound of Jay Dee when remembering the bulk of his work as a producer, but the dark side which took from obscure Rock and Psych records is a very interesting part of his artistic expression to look at as well. Listen a mix of songs mined by the one and only Jay Dee, a collection of deep grooves, weird synths, heavy baselines and breaks spanning the genre of 60-70's Rock music. Thanks to Bowls of Music City Living for his work in creating the mixes.

See how many samples you can spot throughout these mixes, it's a good test to see how familiar you may be with J's total catalog, plus a lesson into his beat-making technique and some areas of obscure Rock music! One of my favorite parts is hearing the drum break he used for Slum Village's "Fall In Love" and the ill guitar break he used for "Substitute" from his instrumental series.

Video: Soulkast And DJ Premier - “PREMIÈRE SALVE”

Audio: F.T. & Bekay on The Halftime Show 10.20.10

The Brooklyn duo of F.T. and Bekay represent the future of New York's underground independent scene by establishing a name for themselves through solo projects and working with a number of well-respected artists. The two stop by WNYU Radio to speak with DJ Eclipse about exciting new projects, both as a duo and separately, plus show their skills on the microphone.

Bekay has been consistent for the past few years, but I am especially happy to hear F.T. back on his grind after penning unforgettable classics such as "Metal Thangz". Stay tuned to Coalmine Records and cratesofjr to hear what this duo has to offer in the near future.

Download: A Lost Jay-Z and Pete Rock Collaboration

The only time I've heard Jay-Z over Pete Rock production back during "In My Lifetime" had me wishing for more. This was one of many stellar promos which were made specifically for the Future Flavaz radio show which displayed Pete's signature SP1200 sound paired with a great MC. I thought this song might inspire a collaboration between the two for release on an album, but unfortunately it never happened.

Hold onto this one for your collection and prepare for Pete's reported collaboration with Jay-Z and Kanye.

Video: Hip Hop According To Inspectah Deck (Live From France)

"You have to eat, sleep, drink, walk and poop Hip Hop!" - Inspectah Deck

The Rebel I.N.S. takes time to reminisce on what made him become the great MC he is today by emphasizing the importance of recognizing Hip Hop's traditional elements. I like foreign media coverage of legendary artists because it provides an opportunity for their genuine, un-biased opinions to be expressed as experienced teachers of the culture. Inspectah Deck maintains an open mind towards the ever-growing international following of Hip Hop culture, but sticks to his most fundamental ideals of teaching others the right direction to follow and preserve cultural integrity.

I was fortunate to catch this episode of underground Hip Hop TV during the release of Enta Da Stage to witness Tek & Steele step from the background of Black Moon and represent themselves in their truest form. From hearing their features on "Black Smif N Wessun" and "U Da Man" I knew something serious was emerging from the Boot Camp Clik that would change the perception of the streets forever, but the raw energy and dark aura of Smif N Wessun displayed in this freestyle really sparked my excitement for their forthcoming debut album.

"Soul Trippin" A 70's Soul And Funk Mix By Kenny Dope

Soul Trippin' by Kenny Dope

Enjoy this mix of mid 1970's upbeat Funk and Soul, a selection of classics compiled by Brooklyn's own DJ Kenny Dope. If you're strictly a fan of Hip Hop and don't have a background in Funk and Soul music, this mix should educate you and provide sounds which are pleasant to the ear. In addition to being well written, memorable in their own right, each song carries many characteristics and reflections of Hip Hop production used over the last decade, from producers who mined the crates, sampled and transformed the distinct sounds of this era.

Audio: The Eminem Story: His Early Years Revisited By A Close Recording Affiliate

You won't hear this interview on MTV, ABC or commercial media. JB d'Mulatto, co-host of The Hed Rush Radio reflects on the early days of recording with Eminem as a member of the group The Anonymous on the song "Green and Gold" in 1998. At the 24:00 mark of the show he revisits memories of working closely with Eminem with limited resources in a normal middle-class lifestyle to lay the foundation which would eventually turn him into the famous Aftermath Records artist you know today.

The Hed Rush show provides an interesting and very informative perspective on Hip Hop by digging into obscure releases of the 90's, many songs which you might have had to be a DJ or crate digger to be familiar with. In addition to good music, hosts JB d'Mulatto and Spider Jerusalem provide good commentary related to Hip Hop culture and life as shown on this episode as they discuss balancing art with financial responsibility. They each give important advice on how to make the right decision in choosing your path in life when faced with a musical career and all the factors which determine financial stability.

"What we're gonna do right here is go back. WAY back, back into time!"

That's one of the most interesting and memorable intros to a Funk record I've heard to this day. The intro of "Troglodyte" by Jimmy Castor has somehow found large significance in a number of classic Hip Hop songs, as well as "Watch Me Now" his electrifying Funk jam which has later been transformed into a B-Boy anthem. In this radio interview learn about Jimmy Castor as he reflects on his journeys as an accomplished musician from writing hits in the 50's to hanging out with Sly & The Family Stone, Joe Tex and other greats of Funk and Soul.

Eric Lau - Cruise Control (FREE DOWNLOAD)

Audio: KRS One and Wife Simone Parker Demonstrate Marital Unity As A Foundation For Life

I consider it a great opportunity to benefit from the inspirational messages and life experience teachings of KRS-One. As I have grown over the years with Hip Hop from child into adulthood, I wondered where his great source of self empowerment and drive comes from towards life beyond the bright lights, publicity and praise. In this episode of Louie Jr Sr. Radio, KRS-One is joined by one of his biggest inspirations, his wife Simone G. Parker who supports his journeys through life as an accomplished figure of leadership, Hip Hop icon, teacher and family man.

As he reflects on a successful 20 years of marriage, KRS-One explains the benefit in working with your partner to discover your purpose in life through trail, error, hope and perseverance.

From Louie Jr Sr. Radio:

Simone G. Parker
 Author, Acronologist

KRS-ONE
"The Teacha", Hip Hop Legend

"In 1999, Simone G. Parker, wife and mother of four, had a startling revelation! While traveling, reading, and attending various church services seeking spiritual enrichment, she began to hear unexplainable thought provoking messages that would come to her in the form of acronyms. "My first acronym came to me while traveling cross country with my husband on a business trip. It was S.P.I.R.I.T. Something Pressing Inside Revealing Its Truth. From that moment on, I saw a hidden message within almost every word. After sharing this gift and inspiring family and friends, Parker then learned that her first name, "Simone," when translated into Hebrew means one who hears. At that pivotal moment, she realized that the hidden values revealed to her in the form of acronyms were a gift from God and that they could be used as a vehicle to shower the spirit by leading others to spiritual peace, clarity and enlightenment.
Acronologist/Prophetess Parker (as those who are inspired by her words affectionately call her) has recorded over 1000 original spiritual acronyms. In addition to spiritual acronyms, Parker has developed practical inspirational strategies for daily living.

Kris Parker aka KRS-ONE (Knowledge Reigns Supreme Over Nearly Everyone), is the embodiment of the philosophical, sociological and political worldview espoused originally by those that participate in Hip Hop's culture.

KRS-ONE is presently one of the most outspoken leaders of Hip Hop's culture and politics. Having lectured at over 500 universities and colleges over a 15-year period, KRS-ONE has been honored by the United Nations, VH-1, Billboard Magazine, the Source magazine, the Riverside Church in New York, Harvard University, Yale University, Princeton University and Oxford University students and professors in England. His integration of Hip Hop and metaphysical knowledge resonates throughout his music, lectures, and writings and the Hip Hop community can't get enough of it. Not only is KRS-ONE widely considered the best live Hip Hop Emcee of all time, respectfully Ja Rule, P Diddy, Snoop Dogg, Nas, Jennifer Lopez, Jay-Z, Sublime, Mos Def, Dr. Dre are among those that have either sampled or covered KRS-ONE's classic rap material."
